Only after it continued to fail after 60 seconds every single time did I go the extreme to see if I could keep the download alive a little longer. So, there would not have been any throttling on the connection and it would have used all available bandwidth.
I actually didn’t have BITS configured until a few weeks before this post. Okay, I deserved that for posting my extreme measures.

In answer to the question I asked in my original reply - There appears to be no indication that the download is failing - but there's several indications that it's being regularly preempted by other activity on the server (and discounting what happened between the 7th and 13th, which is not included in this log posting) - and, perhaps, an indication of some issue impacting the efficiency of the download, but no inkling at all of what might be the cause - could be router congestion, could be regulation from, could be dropped packets on your internal switch, could be a proxy server mucking up Range Protocol Headers, could be a noisy NIC causing collisions, could be issues writing to the disk.

Once everything is downloaded that is Needed (other than XP SP3), my suggestion would be to leave the machine alone so that XP SP3 is the *ONLY* approved update with a pending download - Unapprove anything that's not yet downloaded, and clear out the BITS queue of everything except the XP SP3 package (if necessary) - and then let the machine sit for the weekend such that the only thing it needs to worry about is downloading the XP SP3 package. So, perhaps, even, you might want to Unapprove the XP SP3 package, remove it from the BITS queue, and get these current Critical and Security Updates downloaded first, so they can be deployed whilst you then focus on the XP SP3 question. Thanks very much in advance.Well, while there's obviously some issues downloading Windows XP Service Pack 3 (on what appears to be a VERY busy machine otherwise) - every one of those "Successfully deployed" entries in the logfile represents another possible download that could be impacting your throughput on the download of XP SP3 - or worst case scenario - the XP SP3 download is preventing the download of the content for all of those "just approved" Critical and Security Updates - which means they cannot be installed.

Other than not being able to install the Office XP Service Pack 3 the computer works fine, although slower than my other two. I have 2 other computers, an emachine and an HP and neither one of them are having this problem. All I'm trying to do is update my computer and it is asking to insert disks. I get this same error message if I use the automatic download or the manual download. When I click on the automatic update it downloads and when it begins to install it fails. I am being prompted that there are updates to be installed. The computer is set for automatic updates from Microsoft. I have not added or touched the computer. I have an Inspiron 6400 with Windows XP installed by Dell. Navy on a Ship for almost a year and my computer has been sitting not connected to the internet.
